Bitcoin Replication Debate Reignites as Ripple CTO Weighs In
Ripple's Chief Technology Officer David Schwartz has weighed in on the debate over whether Bitcoin can be replicated, echoing the views of Binance founder Changpeng Zhao.
The discussion began at Binance Blockchain Week, where Zhao and Bitcoin critic Peter Schiff exchanged views. Schiff argued that gold-backed tokens have physical utility due to their representation of a scarce commodity, while Bitcoin's value comes from faith alone.
Zhao countered by saying that physical gold is difficult to divide or verify without specialized tools, whereas Bitcoin can be transferred and verified instantly through its blockchain network.
Schwartz entered the discussion with a question that challenged the premise entirely: how could a new Bitcoin be 'new' and exactly the same as the original if it were replicated?
