Bitcoin Replication Debate: Ripple CTO Weighs In

Ripple CTO David Schwartz has weighed in on the debate about whether Bitcoin can be replicated. He argued that copying the code doesn't replicate the network, echoing the views of Binance founder Changpeng Zhao.

The discussion began at Binance Blockchain Week, where Bitcoin critic Peter Schiff made a case for gold-backed tokens as a more practical and valuable alternative to Bitcoin. Zhao countered by pointing out the difficulties of dividing or verifying physical gold, while Bitcoin can be transferred and verified instantly through its transparent network.

Schiff maintained that Bitcoin remains worthless because it has no practical use, but Zhao pushed back by highlighting the utility of Bitcoin's fixed supply, verifiable ownership, and real-time validation. Schwartz then challenged the premise with a question: how could a new Bitcoin be exactly the same as the original?
