Bitcoin Retreats Ahead of Senate Vote on Clarity Act
The cryptocurrency market is in wait-and-watch mode ahead of a key Senate procedural vote on the Clarity Act, which would split oversight of digital assets between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Bitcoin has retreated from an overnight high near $80,000, trading at around $77,400 as investors reduce risk pre-vote.
The Senate vote requires 60 votes to advance the bill to debate. Analysts suggest that a failure to pass the Clarity Act would maintain the current SEC and CFTC framework, potentially pushing back product launches and tokenization efforts into 2027 or 2028.
According to CoinDesk, the price of Bitcoin has fallen by around 3% from its overnight high, while other major cryptocurrencies such as Ether (ETH), BNB, Tron, Hyperliquid's HYPE, Dogecoin, and Solana are also showing mixed results. XRP stands out among large tokens, rising over 2%, while zcash gains nearly 3%
