Bitcoin Risks Liquidity Crisis as Exchange Reserves Hit Record High
Bitcoin's recent decline has sparked concerns about a potential deeper drop in price. Analyst Joao Wedson warns that unliquidated longs below $57,000 could trigger a massive liquidation event and force Bitcoin lower. This scenario is reminiscent of the pattern seen in 2022, where the price plunged before finding its bottom.
The spot market netflow shows buying over the past 30 days has been weak, with accumulation staying thin. The net flow recorded -$412 million, which is modest compared to a bullish market. Over the past 50 days, the net flow peaked at -$1.10 billion, indicating a lack of strong demand for Bitcoin.
The bigger concern right now is Bitcoin's exchange balance, which has been climbing. At press time, Exchange Reserves have trended higher, with a total balance held on exchanges reaching 2.71 million BTC. This rise in exchange balances typically means traders are moving more Bitcoin onto exchanges to sell.
