Bitcoin Search Interest Hits Five-Year Low Amid Growing Institutional Investment
Public interest in Bitcoin has hit a five-year low in the US despite growing institutional investment. According to Google Trends, the term 'Bitcoin' had a popularity level of 18 for the week ending August 1, which is one of the lowest levels since late 2022 and 2023 when the crypto winter saw the industry experience one of its toughest periods.
This decline comes despite increased mainstream coverage of cryptocurrencies over the past year. In fact, during the first week of February this year, there was more interest in Bitcoin on Google Trends than at any point in the past five years, with a popularity level of 71.
The disappointing search interest is particularly baffling considering the myriad of developments shaping the digital asset landscape, including the potential for procedural movement on the CLARITY Act as the first step toward a thorough crypto regulatory framework.
