Bitcoin Security Consortium Launched with $15 Million Pledge from BlackRock, Coinbase
A group of nine industry giants has launched the Bitcoin Security Consortium, aiming to strengthen the cryptocurrency's long-term security. The consortium is backed by a combined $15 million pledge over three years from founding members BlackRock, Coinbase, Anchorage Digital, ARK Invest, Block, Blockstream, Fidelity Digital Assets, Galaxy, and Strategy. Michael Saylor's Strategy has teamed up with these players to fund developers and researchers working on the network.
The consortium's main priority is addressing potential quantum computing risks, which experts believe could threaten Bitcoin's security in the future. The group will provide financial support to those working on post-quantum cryptography solutions without influencing the development of the blockchain itself.
Strategy CEO Phong Le stated that long-term holders have an incentive to see Bitcoin remain secure for generations, and funding relevant work is a natural way to contribute. BlackRock's Robert Mitchnick added that the consortium will provide 'significant additional funding' to support Bitcoin's security needs.
