Bitcoin Security Researcher Turns to China for AI Help Amid OpenAI Restrictions
A Bitcoin security researcher has been forced to switch from OpenAI's AI tools due to restrictions on analyzing codebases, opting for Chinese open-source models instead.
The researcher, part of the Bitcoin Red Team group, scans open-source Bitcoin-related repositories for vulnerabilities using AI and human review. Their efforts have accelerated since the Coldcard hardware wallet hack, which resulted in over $100 million in stolen Bitcoin.
Last month, crypto executives revealed that many industry players are still waiting to gain access to powerful new AI models to strengthen their code against attacks.
The researcher expressed frustration with OpenAI's restrictions, stating 'It absolutely guts me as a patriotic American to have to do this' and acknowledging the irony of turning to Chinese open-source models.
