Bitcoin Security Researchers Restricted by OpenAI's Cybersecurity Tools
The Bitcoin Red Team initiative is using AI to hunt vulnerabilities in open-source software across the Bitcoin ecosystem.
AnchorWatch CEO Rob Hamilton said that he was restricted from using OpenAI's advanced cybersecurity tools, Trusted Access for Cyber, and had to return to Chinese open-source models.
The Red Team found 4,962 potential issues across 390 Bitcoin-related projects in its first 29.8 hours of operation, with 720 classified as high or critical severity.
Hamilton argued that restricting AI capabilities for security researchers creates a difficult balance between too little control giving attackers powerful tools and too much control leaving legitimate researchers working with weaker systems.
