Bitcoin Security Sweep Uncovers Over 5K Flaws Following Coldcard Breach

Following the Coldcard hardware wallet breach that resulted in over $100 million in stolen Bitcoin, a comprehensive security assessment was conducted on nearly 400 Bitcoin-related projects. The review uncovered a staggering 4,962 security vulnerabilities across these projects within approximately 30 hours.

Of these findings, 720 were classified as high or critical severity, although only 147 have been communicated to the development teams responsible for remediation. The assessment was initiated by the Bitcoin Red Team, which comprises 16 globally distributed volunteer security experts working around the clock.

Cryptographic libraries were found to be the source of the highest volume of individual issues, accounting for 1,385 problems spanning 128 projects. This represents more than one-quarter of all discoveries made during the review.
