The debate highlights a key risk for traders: fear alone can trigger heavy selling even if an actual AI attack does not occur. Shapira initially estimated the chance of an AI-driven security shock as 60% but lowered it to 40% after Buterin's response and Eliezer Yudkowsky's arguments.

Vista Labs also weighed in on the debate, arguing that AI can shorten the time between finding a weakness and exploiting it. This creates a race between attackers and Bitcoin developers. If an attacker finds and exploits a weakness faster than the network can agree on and deploy an upgrade, Bitcoin faces a serious problem.
