Bitcoin Seeks $80,000 Breakthrough as ETF Inflows Near $2 Billion
Bitcoin traded near $78,744 on August 26, just below the crucial $80,000 mark, as institutional money continues to pour into US spot exchange-traded funds. The largest digital asset has been rallying from the mid-$60,000s, with sustained demand for regulated investment vehicles driving the advance.
Spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $336 million in net inflows on August 25 and over $2 billion over the past seven days, led by BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust with 2,650 BTC and Fidelity's Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund with 1,327 BTC. The influx of new capital is evident in open interest in Bitcoin derivatives, which has climbed toward $58 billion.
The Relative Strength Index sits above 80, historically a signal of overbought conditions, while support levels are seen at $77,573 and $76,227. Despite the bullish flow data, several momentum indicators suggest the rally may be stretched in the near term, with Bitcoin's Relative Strength Index standing at 80.45 and its MACD histogram flattened near zero.
Market observers are now watching whether the combination of persistent ETF inflows and expanding derivatives activity can provide enough fuel to push Bitcoin through $80,000 and sustain a move higher. Clearing that level could intensify bullish sentiment, though analysts caution that crypto markets remain prone to rapid reversals.
