Bitcoin Seeks to Hold Ground at $80,000 as ETF Trading Halts
Bitcoin reached an intraday high of $79,500 on August 21, putting it within striking distance of $80,000.
The price surge comes after a rare combination of factors came together, including a surprise Treasury intervention, spot ETF inflows totaling $1.6 billion between August 17 and 20, and billions of dollars in forced short liquidations.
However, with the ETF trading halted until Monday and much of the leveraged short positioning already forced out, Bitcoin's native market structure will be put to the test over the weekend.
Bitfinex analysts noted that the rally is built on three legs: steady accumulation through a volatile stretch, seller exhaustion, and a macro turn doing most of the work.
