Bitcoin Seen as Key Player in AI-Driven Economy
CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju believes that Bitcoin (BTC) is the monetary foundation for an artificial intelligence-driven economy. According to him, the cryptocurrency's proof-of-work mechanism allows it to measure energy value with greater precision than traditional commodities like gold.
Ju made this argument on X, stating that 'Energy is money. Bitcoin precisely measures the value of energy.' He contrasted this ability with gold, which he said cannot be measured accurately because it is not digital.
Ju's comments were part of a larger discussion about the role of Bitcoin mining in an AI-accelerated economy. Hashed CEO Simon Kim argued that the 'energy waste' critique of Bitcoin mining has been overtaken by the buildout of AI data centers. Kim pointed to capital flows, including Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund Mubadala's $437 million allocation to BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF in Q4 2024.
Kim also cited Mubadala's co-lead of Crusoe Energy's Series E round, a $1.375 billion investment that pushed the company's valuation above $10 billion. Crusoe subsequently announced plans to divest its Bitcoin mining division to focus entirely on AI infrastructure.
