Bitcoin Sees Best August Since 2017 as Institutional Demand Surges
Bitcoin's August performance was its best since November 2024, with a gain of approximately 25%. This is also the first time the cryptocurrency has ended August in the green since 2017. The strong rally was largely driven by institutional demand, as US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs saw $3.52 billion in net inflows last month, their largest monthly inflow since October 2025.
Despite this momentum, analysts are warning of a potential 'Red September', a seasonal pattern that has historically made the month challenging for BTC. Historically, every time July and August ended in green, and September closed in red, Bitcoin has struggled.
Michaël van de Poppe believes that a 20-40% drop in September or October is still possible, while Benjamin Cowen predicts a potential seasonal drop before a bounce in October. On the other hand, Willy Woo estimates that around 5% of the world's population already owns Bitcoin, slightly above his estimates for gold and the S&P 500.
