Bitcoin Sees Best Days Ahead Amid Geopolitical Tensions
Fidelity International, one of the world's largest asset managers, has made the case that Bitcoin's best days may still be ahead. The firm's 2026 Digital Assets Outlook argues that rising geopolitical tensions and fears of currency debasement are creating conditions under which Bitcoin tends to thrive.
The report points out that despite a 30% sell-off in October 2025, wiping out over $1 trillion in market value across the crypto sector, this was 'modest by historical standards'. Fidelity frames this drawdown as routine compared to the 50-80% declines Bitcoin has experienced during bear markets.
The firm notes that corporate treasuries, sovereign wealth funds, and private banks are increasingly buying into Bitcoin. This shift from retail-driven hype cycles to a more diversified, institutional base is seen as a key factor in Bitcoin's growing relevance.
Fidelity Associate Director highlights two characteristics of Bitcoin that make it attractive: its fixed supply of 21 million coins and its independence from any single government's monetary policy. The report also emphasizes the importance of developing institutional-grade risk management infrastructure to support Bitcoin's growing roles in collateralization, lending, and derivatives markets.
