Bitcoin Sees Regulatory Ground Gained Amid CLARITY Act Uncertainty

The CLARITY Act's impact on Bitcoin is being viewed differently than its effect on other cryptocurrencies, according to Robert Mitchnick, head of digital assets at BlackRock. Speaking to CNBC, he stated that Bitcoin has already achieved regulatory acceptance, making it less critical for the rest of the crypto market. This distinction is particularly relevant given recent investment trends in spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds.

On Wednesday, these ETFs pulled in $232.1M, extending an eight-day inflow streak to $2.8Bn, according to CoinGlass. Mitchnick's comments highlight that while the CLARITY Act may be less central to Bitcoin's current institutional case, it remains uncertain for more complex crypto categories such as decentralized finance (DeFi). The bill aims to establish a system of regulation for digital commodities by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

The Senate has yet to pass the CLARITY Act, with its official title amended by the House. Mitchnick noted that institutional investors are not relying on further legislation as part of their base case for Bitcoin. Instead, regulatory progress would be seen as potential upside rather than a requirement. This perspective places Bitcoin's institutional position apart from broader policy questions surrounding other parts of the digital-asset market.
