Bitcoin Sees Sharp Short Squeeze Rally Amid Ongoing Volatility
Bitcoin has had a turbulent few months, experiencing a sharp fall in May and June, followed by a quiet August.
In mid-May, Bitcoin peaked at around $82,700, but by mid-June it had dropped to near $65,500, a decline of nearly 20%.
This was largely due to broader market concerns about inflation, the US Federal Reserve's interest rate decisions, and geopolitical tensions.
Additionally, Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) saw significant outflows, with over $4.4 billion withdrawn between May and June.
The price continued to decline in July, reaching a 21-month low of around $57,950 on July 1st.
However, the price stabilized in early August at around $64,000, with some analysts debating whether the bottom was in yet.
This week, Bitcoin experienced a sharp short squeeze rally, jumping by around 8% overnight and breaking above $69,000.
The combination of increased Treasury liquidity support, returning ETF demand, and forced short-covering contributed to this move.
However, opinions are split on whether this is the start of a genuine recovery or just a temporary bounce in a longer downtrend.
