Bitcoin Sees Third One-Block Reorg in Less Than a Month
Bitcoin experienced another small blockchain reorganization on September 11th at block height 966,500. Two different mining pools, SpiderPool and AntPool, produced valid competing blocks built on the same parent block.
The latest incident occurred just days after two previous one-block reorganizations, which took place on August 16 and August 24. Galaxy Research notes that these types of events are generally not concerning and are a normal part of the Bitcoin network's operation.
According to Galaxy, AntPool's ultimately successful block 966,500 had a timestamp of 11:30:30 UTC and contained 4,359 transactions. SpiderPool also produced a valid block 966,500, but it was not seen by Galaxy's node until after AntPool's competing block.
As a result, AntPool's winning block earned about 3.1411 BTC, while the reward from SpiderPool's discarded block became unusable, amounting to roughly 3.1389 BTC.
