Bitcoin Sentiment Plunges Amid Coldcard Exploit

Bitcoin's positive-to-negative commentary ratio has hit an all-time low on social media platforms such as Telegram, Reddit, and X. According to Santiment data, for every bearish remark about Bitcoin, there were only 0.58 bullish comments. This imbalance underscores the lowest twenty-four-hour greed-versus-fear ratio seen in recent times.

The significant drop in sentiment can be attributed to the Coldcard firmware exploit that occurred on July 31st. The incident resulted in the drainage of over $40 million in BTC, leading to a loss of confidence among traders in cold crypto wallets.

Unlike other market disruptions such as the FTX collapse and Mt. Gox fall, this breach has specifically targeted self-custody, a mechanism considered safe within the crypto sector. The psychological impact on retail traders is substantial, prompting heated debates about the security of hardware wallets.
