Bitcoin Set to Challenge Gold's Decades-Long Market Cap Lead
Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao said Bitcoin could overtake gold in market value during the next bull cycle. Speaking at the Bitcoin Asia 2026 conference in Hong Kong, Zhao explained that a shift towards Bitcoin would be gradual due to reserve systems built around gold.
The gap between Bitcoin and gold's market values remains large, with gold having a roughly tenfold capitalization lead. However, Zhao believes that sovereign reserve allocations could eventually tilt towards digital assets, with Bitcoin representing more than 50% of strategic crypto holdings alongside Ethereum and BNB.
Zhao also linked wider crypto adoption to artificial intelligence, stating that stablecoins are likely to become the first digital assets used broadly by AI systems. He expects AI-assisted trading to develop before AI-driven payments, citing its potential to increase efficiency tenfold.
