Bitcoin Shifts Towards Smaller Transactions, Fulfills Satoshi's Vision
Recent data from CryptoQuant founder Ki Young Ju suggests that Bitcoin is shifting towards smaller transactions. This trend aligns with Satoshi Nakamoto's original vision for the cryptocurrency, which was to make it a practical form of everyday money.
Ju examined transaction fees on the Bitcoin network and found that they have been cheaper than Ethereum's since 2021. The median fee on Bitcoin is currently around $0.40, while Ethereum's is about $0.68.
Looking at transfers between $40 and $1,000, Ju identified a shift towards smaller and more frequent transactions. This data suggests that Bitcoin is gaining traction as a practical payment method, rather than just being used for storing value.
Ki Young Ju believes this trend indicates an increase in real-life peer-to-peer payments on the network. He notes that larger median transaction sizes were seen from 2019 to 2022, but since 2023, transfers have become smaller and more frequent.
