Bitcoin Shrugs Off Hack and Regulation Delays with ETF Frenzy

Bitcoin's price has continued to climb despite two major setbacks in recent days. The cryptocurrency traded above $65,170 on Friday, a 4% increase over the past week. This resilience comes despite the ongoing Coldcard hack, which has seen millions of dollars in Bitcoin stolen from wallets due to a vulnerability in the product's software.

The estimated amount lost so far is over $130 million, with daily thefts continuing since the attack was discovered. The incident has raised concerns among investors who have traditionally praised cold storage solutions like Coldcard. Meanwhile, news broke that the Clarity Act, a bill aimed at setting digital asset regulation in the US, would be delayed until September due to lawmakers breaking for recess.

However, this negative news has not seemed to deter investors, who continue to buy shares of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) such as BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust and Morgan Stanley's fund. Since the beginning of the week, $763.6 million in fresh cash has flowed into these products, which are managed by top asset managers like Fidelity and Grayscale.

Bloomberg Intelligence's Eric Balchunas noted that the flows may not be directly related to the Coldcard hack, but it would make sense for investors to rotate into successful products like these ETFs. The firm's analysis suggests that investor interest in these products is driving their growth.
