Bitcoin Signals BIP-110 Soft Fork Amid Miner Resistance
Bitcoin has started signaling for the BIP-110 soft fork, which aims to limit non-financial data on the network. The signaling period began with block 961,632 and will last until block 965,664, about four weeks away.
The soft fork relies on users updating their nodes to enforce the change, potentially causing a split into two competing Bitcoin networks if miners do not comply. However, miner support has remained below 2.5%, far from the 55% needed.
Key figures like Michael Saylor and Adam Back have expressed opposition to BIP-110. The signaling period will be crucial in determining the future cohesion of the network.
