Bitcoin Skeptic Turned Stablecoin Builder: Nevin Freeman's Journey to Reserve
Nevin Freeman is the co-founder and CEO of Reserve Protocol, an asset-backed stablecoin platform designed to safeguard value for people living in high-inflation economies.
Freeman's journey with crypto began in 2011 when he discovered Bitcoin while exploring a community focused on global catastrophic risks and long-term problem-solving. However, he soon questioned whether Bitcoin's fixed supply could support stable everyday use, leading him to build Reserve instead.
Before founding Reserve, Freeman had a diverse background, having co-founded RIABiz, a financial industry publication, in 2009, and later MetaMed Research, a personalized medical research company. He also co-founded Paradigm Academy, a company-building and education venture in 2016. In 2017, he co-founded Reserve with Matt Elder, who serves as the protocol's chief technology officer.
Reserve's product has evolved from an early stablecoin pilot in Venezuela into RSV and then into RTokens, stablecoins backed by baskets of collateral rather than a single asset. The company launched two additional companies, ABC Labs and Confusion Capital, in January 2024 to support the protocol's growth. Freeman serves as president at Confusion Capital while remaining CEO of Reserve.
