Bitcoin Slips Below $77K Amid Fresh AI Uncertainty

Bitcoin's price dipped below $77,000 on Sunday, marking a continuation of the cryptocurrency's weak performance over the past week. The decline leaves investors facing fresh uncertainty about the pace of AI development, with leaders in the field sounding warnings about potential safety concerns.

The weekend's move puts Bitcoin back near its intraday low of $76,676 reached on September 10, just before Saturday's AI statements from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. According to Amodei, companies should slow down the development of AI and have independent evaluators review their work.

Altman told Fortune that OpenAI would delay its initial public offering until 2027 due to safety concerns, further adding to investors' uncertainty about the future of AI progress and commercial milestones. The market's response to these possibilities remains a scenario for Monday, not an observed outcome.
