Bitcoin Slumps Amid Ongoing Crypto Regulation Uncertainty
Bitcoin's price has retreated to around $77,800 after a strong rally on Monday, as the Senate prepares to vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act. The bill aims to reduce regulatory uncertainty for cryptocurrencies by dividing oversight between the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
The crypto market is watching the vote closely, with some supporters hoping that passage of the bill will provide clarity on regulatory requirements. However, Democrats are still seeking additional changes, despite President Trump's reported agreement to revised ethics language in a Senate draft.
Senator Cynthia Lummis, who has been championing the bill, expressed frustration at the ongoing negotiations, saying 'The Democrats want more... There's no end to it.' The vote requires 60 votes, meaning Republican support alone would not be enough for passage.
