Bitcoin Soars 22% as Most Mining Stocks Struggle to Keep Pace
Bitcoin has experienced a significant price surge since August 17, rising approximately 22%. However, most mining stocks have failed to keep pace with this growth. In fact, only one company, Canaan, among those tracked by The Block's Data & Insights weekly newsletter managed to outperform Bitcoin.
The median return for the other 10 mining and mining-related companies stood at a relatively low 1.8%, significantly trailing behind Bitcoin's rise. Some companies like Core Scientific underperformed Bitcoin by as much as 27%, while TeraWulf lagged behind by 24%.
Several factors may be contributing to the lagging performance of mining stocks. One possible reason is that some miners have diversified their focus towards high-performance computing components and AI data center infrastructure, which may provide separate support channels during different market periods.
