Bitcoin Soars 26% on Record Short Liquidations and ETF Inflows
Bitcoin (BTC) surged 26% after a record-breaking short liquidation event on August 19, 2026. The rally was fueled by $2.23 billion in spot ETF inflows, marking one of the strongest institutional intakes of the year.
The surge was driven by forced short closures and real buying pressure, rather than speculative leverage. Over 85% of liquidated positions during the rally were shorts, which cut through major liquidation clusters.
Despite the strong rebound, traders are now closely watching the $81K-$86K range, where significant resistance could temper further upside. This zone overlaps with long-term holder cost basis levels and a dense band of remaining liquidation levels.
