Bitcoin Soars Past $70,000 Amid Treasury Buybacks and Short Liquidations
Bitcoin surged to nearly $70,000 in early trade on August 20, crossing the level for the first time since early June. The surge was driven by US Treasury buybacks and short liquidations, which added nearly $190 billion to the total cryptocurrency market capitalisation.
Vikram Subburaj, CEO of Giottus, noted that the US Treasury buybacks lowered 10-year and 30-year yields to 4.64 percent and 5.18 percent, improving bond liquidity and risk appetite.
However, experts warn that this momentum may not be sustainable, as investors should avoid chasing sharp intraday moves and instead look for confirmation that prices can consolidate above the $70,000 level.
