Bitcoin Soars Past $75K as Coinbase CEO Forecasts New Bull Market
Bitcoin has surpassed $75,000 in value, marking a significant gain of over 11% within a 24-hour period. This surge comes as Coinbase's CEO, Brian Armstrong, declares that the bull market for digital assets is likely underway. In an interview with CNBC, Armstrong pointed to several factors contributing to this trend: the lengthy bear phase, upcoming Senate action on cryptocurrency regulation, and Bitcoin's typical strength during year-end trading periods.
The recent price increase can be attributed to a combination of factors. The liquidation of over $1 billion worth of short positions in a single hour helped propel the upward momentum, while American spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds attracted $517 million in net capital on August 19, representing their strongest daily intake since May.
Armstrong also referenced the April 2024 halving event, which reduced mining rewards from 6.25 to 3.125 BTC per block, leading to significant price rallies following previous halvings.
