Bitcoin Soars Past $81,000 as Waller Comments Cool Rate Hike Expectations
Bitcoin surged past $81,000 on September 3, driven by Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller's comments that he would support holding interest rates steady if August inflation data shows further cooling.
The price jumped 4.5% to an intraday high of $81,370, according to Binance chart data provided by crypto.news. The asset was trading near $80,840 at the time of writing, with buyers defending the resistance area that stopped its August rally.
Waller's comments reduced the probability of a September rate hike, causing interest-rate futures to decline and two-year and ten-year Treasury yields to fall. The dollar also weakened, creating a more supportive environment for Bitcoin and other assets sensitive to U.S. liquidity conditions.
