Bitcoin Soars to New Heights as Institutional Money Floods In
Bitcoin's August rally saw prices surge to between $78,000 and $79,000 after languishing near $62,000 to $64,000 earlier in the month. The gain of approximately 24% marked Bitcoin's strongest August since 2017 and its best monthly performance since November 2024.
The rally was largely driven by institutional money, with US spot Bitcoin ETFs pulling in around $1.92B during the week ending August 21 alone. For the full month, total inflows were estimated at between $2.7B to $3B, providing steady buying pressure throughout the rally.
Large wallet holders accumulated roughly 60,000 BTC over the course of the month, while smaller holders trimmed their positions. Short sellers got obliterated, with liquidations across the derivatives market totaling approximately $6.55B over a two-week stretch.
