Bitcoin Split Looms: BIP-110 Fork Exposes Holders to Replay Attacks
A potential chain split in Bitcoin due to BIP-110 could put real BTC at risk for holders who try to sell coins created by the fork without first separating their balances.
Bitcoin developer Kevin Loaec warned that a replay attack is possible if buyers attempt to copy transactions from the new forked coins and broadcast them on the main Bitcoin network.
The BIP-110 proposal seeks to restrict non-payment data stored through Bitcoin transactions for about one year, but most miners are not signaling support for the proposal. The mandatory signaling window is expected to begin this weekend, although the timing could shift.
