Bitcoin Spot Trading Volume Hits Two-Year Low
Bitcoin's spot trading volume has hit its lowest level since November 2023, according to research firm K33. The average daily volume in July 2026 is approximately $2.2 billion, a figure that marks the quietest stretch for Bitcoin trading in over two years.
The decline in trading activity is not limited to spot markets. Derivatives markets are also showing diminished institutional engagement. Open interest in CME Bitcoin futures has approached multi-year lows, indicating that institutions have pulled back from Bitcoin exposure.
Several cryptocurrency exchanges have announced closures or signaled exits due to the low-volume pressure. BitMEX will shut down permanently in September 2026, while BitMart and AscendEX have also exited or signaled exits.
