Bitcoin Sprints to $80,000 Threshold as Weekend Test Looms
Bitcoin's price has surged to within striking distance of $80,000, reaching an intraday high of $79,500 on August 21. This marks the biggest weekly rally in two years, driven by a combination of factors including a surprise Treasury intervention, $1.6 billion in spot ETF inflows, and billions of dollars in forced short liquidations.
The rally was built on three legs: steady accumulation through a volatile stretch, seller exhaustion, and a macro turn doing most of the work, according to Bitfinex analysts.
However, the weekend poses a challenge for Bitcoin as the ETF channel that absorbed most of this week's demand goes dark until Monday, leaving the market to hold its gains without this tool. Native spot buying will be crucial in keeping the price momentum going over the weekend.
