Bitcoin Stalls as Equities Dominate Market
Glassnode, a reputable financial analytics firm, has stated that Bitcoin needs to regain strength against major indices before it can break out of its current market cycle.
In the past 90 days, Bitcoin has dropped by 20%, four times as much as the S&P 500's 5% gain. Looking at the broader picture, the crypto market has performed the worst among major asset classes this year, with Bitcoin down 35% and altcoins down 57% since January.
In contrast, gold is up 60%, copper 66%, and silver 107%. The Nasdaq and Russell 2000 are also up significantly at 38% and 31%, respectively. This indicates that the current market remains dominated by stocks until Bitcoin reclaims strength against indices.
Glassnode's statement is evident in the recent performance of Bitcoin, which gained 9% in July while the Nasdaq-100 fell nearly 7%. However, BlackRock's digital assets lead, Robert Mitchnick, views this decoupling as 'healthy' for investors who see Bitcoin as a way to diversify. He notes that sentiment has begun to improve in the past month, with inflows returning to ETFs.
