Bitcoin Stalls at $62,000 Amid Regulatory and Macro Headwinds
Bitcoin's recent rally has stalled at around $62,000 after approaching $65,000, leaving sentiment cautious. According to Bitfire Research, a cluster of headwinds is weighing on the cryptocurrency, including tighter monetary signals from the Federal Reserve and fading legislative momentum in Washington.
The Fed's more hawkish tone has tightened liquidity expectations, cooling risk appetite across markets. The Clarity Act, which aims to provide clearer digital-asset rules, has lost steam in Congress and may not pass before the August recess.
Weak inflows for spot Bitcoin ETFs, at roughly $205 million in July, underscore how policy uncertainty is keeping many institutions on the sidelines. Two discrete events have also added to the pressure: a wallet associated with Trump Media & Technology Group moved 2,628 bitcoin (around $165 million) to exchanges, and a vulnerability in Coldcard hardware wallets was linked to the theft of approximately 1,367 bitcoin (around $89 million).
Near-term price action is likely to be driven more by macroeconomic data than crypto-specific news. Strong labour data or sticky inflation would reinforce a restrictive stance and weigh on risk assets, including Bitcoin.
