Bitcoin Steadies Near $78,000 Amid SEC Custody Overhaul
Bitcoin has steadied around $78,000 after its pullback earlier this week.
The cryptocurrency's price has been volatile in recent days, retreating from above $81,000 before rebounding to around $78,350, up about 0.2% over 24 hours.
This stability comes as the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) moves ahead with an overhaul of digital asset custody rules.
The proposed changes aim to clarify how investment advisers and funds can hold client and fund assets, specifically addressing uncertainty around the custody of cryptocurrencies.
The SEC's regulatory filing describes the proposal as 'economically significant' and 'deregulatory', with a proposed rule scheduled for publication in October 2026.
