Bitcoin's short-term holders (STH) are sitting on an unprecedented $9.07 billion in unrealized profit, according to CryptoQuant data.

This is a record high since the metric began tracking in 2016 and represents the largest gain for STH whales who have held their BTC for 155 days or less.

CryptoQuant analysts warn that these profits could quickly turn into selling pressure if Bitcoin falls, pointing to the September 5 drop when profits dropped to $7.51 billion after a 2% price decline.

'Unrealized profit at that scale is exposure,' the analysts said.
