Bitcoin Strategist Calls BTC 'Coiled Spring', Sees Surge Ahead
Bitcoin strategist James Thorne calls Bitcoin a 'coiled spring' and the market's 'next big trade'. He bases his prediction on a macro thesis that the U.S. should grow out of debt through supply-side, non-inflationary growth rather than through war.
Thorne believes that Bitcoin is one of the clearest beneficiaries of this shift in economic policy. When asked about the next big trade for investors who can hold through volatility, he replied, 'It's not gold, I think gold can double from here. It's not Micron (MU); Micron can double from here, but you've got this - Bitcoin is a coiled spring.'
Thorne points out that Bitcoin has been performing well over the last 11 months, and its price was up by 0.2% in the past 24 hours.
He ignores headlines and focuses on technical signals, such as the 200-day exponential moving average. Thorne notes that when this signal is upward sloping and right positive, he buys Bitcoin. He believes that Bitcoin is 'very close' to a crossover turning positive, which would mark a shift from a bearish grind to a bullish reversal.
Thorne's own portfolio reflects his conviction in Bitcoin, and he has his 'risk capital' invested in the cryptocurrency. However, he cautions that if Democratic Socialists gain control of Congress after the 2026 midterms, his bullish thesis would be off the table, making him excessively bearish on markets broadly.
