Bitcoin Supply Nears Completion: Less Than 1% Remain
The total supply of Bitcoin currently stands at 20,045,225 BTC as of June 19, 2026, according to Blockchain.com on-chain data. This represents 95.45% of the maximum supply of 21 million BTC that will ever exist.
There are still approximately 954,775 BTC remaining to be mined before reaching the maximum supply. However, this final portion of coins will take over a century to mine, with an estimated timeline of around 2140.
The block reward schedule is the mechanism behind Bitcoin's fixed supply. The reward starts at 50 BTC and halves every 210,000 blocks, resulting in a geometric series that converges on 21 million BTC. This predictable issuance is a key design feature of Bitcoin's protocol.
