Bitcoin Surge Sends Mining Stocks Soaring Past AI, HPC Peers
Bitcoin's recent price surge has lifted mining stocks above those related to artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC). According to BlocksBridge Consulting's Miner Weekly, Bitcoin rallied about 23% over the past week, outpacing most AI-linked infrastructure stocks.
The strongest moves were seen among miners with direct exposure to Bitcoin price action. Companies like Canaan, American Bitcoin, and Cango rose between 41% and 67%, while several AI/HPC-heavy names were flat or down.
BlocksBridge attributes the stock surge to Treasury liquidity-support buybacks, renewed US crypto regulatory momentum, and a sharp liquidation-driven short squeeze. The firm points out that despite the industry's pivot towards AI, Bitcoin price still largely determines near-term mining-stock performance.
The connection between Treasury buyback expansion and improved liquidity expectations is straightforward: when liquidity conditions improve, markets tend to become more willing to price risk higher, benefiting volatile sectors like crypto and crypto mining. Regulatory optimism after a White House meeting with crypto executives also played a role, as did the sharp short squeeze that followed Bitcoin's breakout.
