Bitcoin Surges 25% in August as White House Meeting Sparks Buying Frenzy
Bitcoin has experienced a significant surge in August, rising by 25% and putting it on track for its best month since 2017. The price of Bitcoin is currently near $80,000.
The catalyst for this sudden increase appears to be a high-level meeting of crypto executives at the White House on August 19, which turned into a cheerleading event for Bitcoin. President Donald Trump even suggested that the U.S. government might start buying Bitcoin for its Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.
As a result of this meeting, Strategy, the world's biggest Bitcoin treasury company, saw its massive Bitcoin holdings flip from a $10 billion loss to a $1.4 billion gain. This has added fuel to the fire, as it means that Strategy may soon start buying more Bitcoin.
