Bitcoin Surges 26% in Under a Week: Is Regulatory Shift Driving Rally?
Bitcoin has made a significant recovery in recent days, surging 26% over the past week and reclaiming levels above $80,000 for the first time since May.
This sudden turnaround comes after a period of stagnation, with Bitcoin stuck in a range-bound market. However, various fundamental factors may be contributing to this rally.
One key driver is the potential shift in regulatory policies, as US lawmakers have been pushing for clearer crypto regulations, and the SEC has started moving towards a more defined framework. Additionally, US spot Bitcoin ETF flows have turned positive again after months of weak demand.
The bond market may also be playing a role, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's announcement of larger buybacks of longer-dated Treasurys putting pressure on the dollar and reviving demand for scarce assets. This move has been seen as a sign that policymakers may have a lower tolerance for disorderly long-end yields.
Technically, Bitcoin has broken through its 200-day exponential moving average (EMA) band, which had previously acted as a suppressant on the asset. However, some analysts believe that a deeper pullback towards $66,000 is possible if Bitcoin falls below this level again.
