Bitcoin Surges Above $69K on Treasury's Quantitative Easing Move
Bitcoin's price surged nearly 6% to above $69,000 on Wednesday after the US Treasury announced plans to double its purchases of older government bonds. This move was seen as a subtle form of quantitative easing that could weaken the dollar and boost scarce assets such as Bitcoin.
Matt Mena, senior strategist at crypto research firm 21Shares, pointed out that investors interpreted this move as a signal for easier monetary policy, which is conducive to risk-on investing. This led to a short squeeze in the market, where short sellers were forced to cover their positions by buying Bitcoin, adding fuel to the rally.
The iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) was up about 6% on August 19th, while Bitcoin miners are increasingly redirecting their infrastructure into AI data centers, leveraging their power-dense data centers to tap into the booming AI infrastructure market.
