Bitcoin Surges Above $70,000 Amid Trump's Call for Crypto Legislation
Bitcoin price briefly touched $70,000 on Wednesday in some exchanges, marking its first time above this level since June 2nd. The move was attributed to a combination of factors, including President Donald Trump's call for Congress to pass the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act and signs of increased liquidity in the Treasury market.
The price increase also coincided with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's decision to double the size of the Treasury Department's bond buyback operations. This move was seen as a potential backstop for liquidity in the over $30 trillion Treasury market, which could ease financial conditions and support risk assets.
Market technicians had been watching an inverse 'head-and-shoulders' pattern forming since Bitcoin's June lows, with a confirmed break pointing to a possible move toward $76,000. However, Wednesday's Federal Reserve minutes offered less help to the bulls, as most officials backed keeping rates unchanged at the Fed's July meeting.
