Bitcoin Surges Above $72K on Trump-Fueled Regulatory Optimism and Historic Short Squeeze
Bitcoin's price surged to its highest level since June 1, reaching an intraday high of about US$72,844 after a four-day advance of roughly 14%. The rally was driven by improving US regulatory sentiment and lower bond yields, which have weakened the US dollar and provided a favorable backdrop for alternative assets.
The move has also triggered one of the largest short squeezes in the crypto market, with more than US$3 billion of short positions liquidated across digital assets. This has added to the upward momentum, as traders who had bet against Bitcoin's rise are now forced to cover their losses by buying back into the market.
The US Treasury's decision to expand purchases of longer-dated government debt has also contributed to the rally, driving Treasury yields lower and supporting cryptocurrencies like Ethereum and XRP. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has renewed calls for Congress to advance digital asset market structure legislation, which has helped revive expectations that the US regulatory environment could become more supportive of the industry.
