Bitcoin Surges Above $77,000 on ETF Inflows and U.S. Regulatory Tailwinds
Bitcoin's price has surpassed $77,000 as investors pile into spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), according to recent data. Over two days, more than $1 billion flowed into these funds, with net inflows totaling around $517 million on August 19 and $606 million on August 20.
The surge in demand for Bitcoin is also attributed to changes in the U.S. policy environment. Lacy Zhang, an analyst at Bitget, noted that the U.S. Treasury's plan to expand long-term Treasury buybacks has led to a weaker dollar, reviving demand for stores of value such as Bitcoin and gold.
Julio Moreno, an analyst at CoinShares, also pointed to the U.S. Treasury's announcement and President Donald Trump's mention of possible government-level Bitcoin purchases as catalysts. He added that spot demand had shown signs of recovery several days before those announcements.
Some assessments suggest that Bitcoin's direct gains may be limited, with Moreno stating that Bitcoin has already secured relatively high regulatory clarity in the United States and is widely treated as a commodity, with ETF and institutional access channels already in place. The Clarity Act could significantly change investability for other cryptocurrencies but is not of a nature that brings radical change to Bitcoin.
