Bitcoin Surges Above $80K: Macro Conditions, ETF Demand, and Short Positioning Drive Rally
Bitcoin has broken through $80,000, marking its highest level in approximately three months and continuing to reshape market sentiment.
The move above $75,000 was a significant milestone for Bitcoin, with many questioning whether it represented the beginning of a durable breakout or an overreaction driven by short-term catalysts.
A panel discussion featuring Jeff Ko, Chief Analyst at CoinEx; c00k1e (Cookie), Researcher at BlockBeats; and Sal Selamat-Sim, Growth Lead at Bitcoin.com, examined the forces behind Bitcoin's latest breakout. The panel agreed that a combination of factors drove the rally: macro conditions, including U.S. Treasury policy developments; ETF-related demand, with spot Bitcoin ETFs recording approximately $1.6 billion in net inflows across four trading days; and short positioning, with approximately $2.7 billion in short positions liquidated during the initial move.
The panel emphasized that price alone is not enough to confirm a sustainable trend. Jeff Ko argued that stability, rather than further price increases, would be a healthier confirmation of the market's shift. He highlighted the importance of the $72,000-$75,000 zone as an area to watch, suggesting that if it can function as support after Bitcoin's move above $80,000, it would provide stronger evidence of a structural shift.
