Bitcoin Surges Above $82,000 as Fed's Dovish Signals Boost Risk Appetite
Cryptocurrency prices surged on Thursday following a dovish shift in the Federal Reserve's rate outlook, with Bitcoin reaching above $82,000. The sudden increase in risk appetite saw Ethereum spike to an intraday high of $2,526 and XRP jump by 6% each. Meanwhile, Dogecoin rose by 6.33%, adding to its recent momentum.
The influx of new money into the derivatives market was evident with Bitcoin's open interest soaring 7.79%. However, Binance's retail and whale traders cut long exposure, turning net bearish against this move. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index revealed 'greed' sentiment dominated the market, indicating a shift in investor attitudes.
Michaël van de Poppe, a well-known cryptocurrency analyst, speculated about the potential for Bitcoin to follow an unconventional four-year cycle or experience a mid-cycle correction. He suggested that a peak earlier than 2016-2017 could be on the horizon. On-chain analytics firm CryptoQuant noted strong bullish signals from Bitcoin's Bull Score of 70 but pointed out new buyer demand remains weak, driven primarily by short covering in futures markets.
